School based Australian Apprenticeships give students a head start with their working life. They are able to gain a vocational education and training (VET) qualification while pursuing their senior secondary certificate.

Both the employer and the Australian Apprentice are required to sign a training agreement which links to an industrial award or agreement. Wages are usually paid for the time the Australian Apprentice spends in the workplace.
